Making a text document with data analysis

Objectives

  1. Understanding that text is data and can be combined with other formats
  2. Using a text editor as a method of presenting data
  3. Understanding that concept map and text document can be combined

What prior skills are assumed

  1. Text entry with keyboard
  2. Working with folders and files
  3. Familiarity with multiple applications

Resources needed

  1. Computer lab with projection equipment
  2. Handout for LibreOffice Writer
  3. Handout for Freeplane

Digital skills

  1. Working with text document and typing local language
  2. Inserting images and combining with text

Description of activity with detailed steps

Teacher led activity

  1. Your teacher will demonstrate how to organize a text document to communicate an idea, in this case an analysis. We will continue with the same example of languages in India
  2. You will also learn how to set up keyboard for local language text input for the analysis.
  3. Your teacher will demonstrate how to insert a mind map into a text document and how to add your analysis

Student activities

  • From this activity onwards, you will get an idea of how a cumulative portfolio works.

In the previous sections, you worked on:

  1. Collecting data and organizing it (you may have used a text editor to type this in also)
  2. Digitizing your hand written analysis
  3. Concept map describing the data you have studied
  • In this activity you will enter your analysis in a text processor

  1. Your concept maps representing your analysis of the data
  2. A text document with your written analysis of the data with the concept map inserted
