  3. Images to show of the computer
  4. Pictures,Images, Songs, Videos, Web pages

Digital skills

  1. Interacting with the ICT environment
  2. Understanding the role of an Operating system
  3. Understanding the difference between operating system and application software
  4. An idea of the internet

Description of activity with detailed steps

Teacher-led component

  1. Students in small groups can make a of list all the items a washing machine does and a list of all the things they think a computer can do.
  2. In a group activity the teacher will compile all the group comments in a digital mindmap using a concept mapping tool and encourage students to classify the various things the computer will do. (Click here for learning Freemind).
  3. The teacher will discuss why an operating system needed is and how it works with different applications to ensure that data is communicated
  4. With the help of a schematic the teacher will discuss the parts of a computer
  5. In small groups the students can switch on a computer and identify the parts they know


  1. Open a file folder and show the following:
    1. An image
    2. Play a song
    3. Picture story book
    4. Geogebra animation
    5. Mindmap of the discussion the class had
    6. Web pages (live)

Student activities

  1. Ask the students to compare a mobile phone and the computer and they need to document this as a mind map


Portfolio

  1. Collect student created mindmaps and digitize it with a camera and add it to their growing portfolio
