Drawing with Geogebra
In this activity, you will explore free the drawing pad of Geogebra and create different sketches.
Objectives
- Understanding how the different tool bar functions work in Geogebra
- Being able to create free hand sketches of geometric shapes
- Recreating given objects using different functionalities in the Geogebra tool bar
- Building a library of Geogebra files for further learning
What prior skills are assumed
- Opening different applications and creating folders and saving files
- Familiarity with using a key board
- Control in using a mouse or track pad
What resources do you need
- Working computer lab with projector
- Computers installed with Ubuntu Operating System
- Computer lab with projection
- Access to internet
- Handout for Ubuntu
- Handout for Geogebra
What digital skills will you learn
- Learning to work with interactive applications, with given input
- Creating, saving files with Geogebra
Description of activity with detailed steps
Teacher led activity
After introducing you to how to open the Geogebra file, your teacher will demonstrate two pictures sketched using Geogebra.
Watch and observe the various functionalities she uses. This will include the following:
- Using the different geometric shapes visible on the tool bar
- Defining the drawn objects as a shape (or a polygon)
- Rotating and moving objects
- Showing and making invisible the labels of points
- Formatting objects drawn
Student activities
- Create the following free sketches (or any other sketch of your choice) with Geogebra and save the images as well as the file
- Tree
- House
- Car
- Suitcase
- Well
- Draw the following given sketches using Geogebra. With a set of 3,4,5,6,7,8 segments try to draw various polygons. And define the polygons drawn as an object. After drawing the polygons, move the vertices and rotate the polygons. Is it possible to change the vertices? Observe what changes in the polygon.
- Look at the following images and try to create these using Geogebra.
Create multiple images using tool bar
Create multiple images and arrange them
Portfolio
- Your library of Geogebra files
- Your screenshot images of sketches created in the Geogebra files
