Description of activity with detailed steps
Teacher led activity
- Your teacher will read a story "Town Mouse and Country Mouse" in class. Then you will work in small groups to identify the ideas to illustrate. The text of the story will be on your folder in the computer lab.
- You will work on your illustrations in different groups.
- Your teacher will demonstrate the use of Tux Paint for creating images and capturing the images for building the illustration.
- She will demonstrate how to add images alongside the text for illustrating the story.
- Your teacher will also discuss with you how to develop alternative endings to the story and you can illustrate the different endings. An example of an illustrated story book is available here.
- At the end of the exercise, exchange your illustrated stories. Suggest to others how they can further improve the illustrated stories.
Student activities
- Your teacher will allocate 4 stories and 4 poems to the class for illustrating.
- Decide what pictures to draw, draw and color them and combine with text to create the story
- Talk to the elders in your community and ask them to tell you a local story - it can even be of a tree or the temple or the lake. You write down the text for the story as they narrate. Illustrate your local history story book. Ask your elders to sing or narrate the lyrics of one song to you. You write down the lyrics and illustrate your own family or community song.
Portfolio
- Your illustrations for the stories using a digital art creation tool
- Image albums and the digitized text of the song
- Your own illustrated story book combining text and images
