Description of activity with detailed steps
Teacher led activity
- To introduce you to the idea of text input, your teacher will take a sample piece of text and input it in a "gedit Notepad" (a plain text editor) in Telugu and English. See here for sample stories in English and Telugu. This will help you practice text input.
- Your teacher will demonstrate how to create a text document using a text editor application. There are many tools available for creating text documents; we will use a tool called LibreOffice Writer in this textbook.
- You will also learn how to set up your computer for local language typing.
- Your teacher will demonstrate how to organize a text document to communicate an idea, in this case an analysis. We will continue with the same example of languages in India. In this activity, you will also learn how to organize a folder with files, images and concept maps. Watch how your teacher is naming the files.
- Your teacher will demonstrate how to insert an image concept map into a text document and how to add your analysis
- See attached text document that your teacher will show you as a sample.
Student activities
From this activity on-wards, you will get an idea of how a cumulative portfolio works.
In the previous sections, you worked on:
- Collecting data and organizing it (you may have used a text editor to type this in also)
- Digitizing your hand written analysis
- Concept map describing the data you have studied
In this activity you will enter your analysis in a text processor. Your text document will include:
- Title
- A brief introduction to what the document is
- An image of the data used for the analysis, if available
- An image of the concept map used for the analysis (which you created by exporting your concept map as an image)
- Summary of the process of the analysis
Portfolio
- Your concept maps representing your analysis of the data
- A text document with your written analysis of the data with the concept map inserted
