These resources have been developed as a result of interventions undertaken by Quest Alliance in communities they have worked with. These are meant to be supportive activities and should not be seen as substitute for expert mental health support.
General Guidelines for Facilitators
- To be prepared for the sessions : Do grounding exercises, breathing exercises before and after the session. Enter the session at least 5 minutes before the session.
- Some statements and tools to ensure safety at the beginning of the session itself. E.g., Behavioral contract
- While doing any activity, be mindful of the emotional state of your learners through frequent sense checks.
- Display a healthy balance of emotions. (don’t go overboard with sadness or happiness)
- Be empathetic when learners are sharing their feelings/experiences.
- Ensure it's a safe space for everyone. (keep repeating the norms of the group and to respect people as they share)
- Don’t forget to note down important points that emerge from sharings of learners. (e.g, any student who is struggling with anything - loss of parents or loved ones, anxiety, harassment, child labour/marriage, those on the verge of dropping out of schools, in need help for basic needs like food, shelter etc)
- The activities can be tweaked depending on the medium you use (WhatsApp/GoogleMeet/Zoom/Phone Calls)
- The work done by our students during any of the activities can become an artifact.
