A text editor allows you to combine images and text, format text in multiple ways (table, lists, etc.), allows you to add external references (either from your computer or from the internet), adding footnotes, endnotes or bibliography. Images can be formatted with text and documents can be designed for printing.  It is the most advanced tool available for creating textual outputs. Text can be copied, pasted and formatted differently. All these features are not merely technical skills but they allow for richness and comprehensiveness in a written document.
