Getting introduced to quadrilateral properties
In this activity, you will explore how different quadrilateral shapes are formed

Objective

  1. Using Geogebra to accurately construct and label geometric figures
  2. Visualizing how quadrilaterals are formed
  3. Understanding properties of quadrilaterals

What prior skills are assumed

  1. High level of familiarity with the Geogebra tool bar and the different features
  2. Working with text document and adding pictures

What resources do you need

  1. Computer lab with projection
  2. Access to internet
  3. Handout for Ubuntu
  4. Handout for Geogebra
  5. Handout for Screenshot
  6. Geogebra files for demonstration

What digital skills will you learn

  1. Learning to work with interactive applications, with given input
  2. Creating, saving files with Geogebra
  3. Accurately drawing and measuring geometry figures
  4. Inserting pictures and completing the worksheet

Description of activity with detailed steps

Teacher led activity

We will continue the work you did with Geogebra last year to learn more mathematics. Your teacher will display the file below and ask you to explore how quarilaterals can be constructed.

You will use the following Geogebra file for this lesson. (You can click on the image to download the Geogebra file, you can do this for any Geogebra file in the text book)

Quadrilateralintro.png

Your teacher will demonstrate the following to you:

  1. Drawing segments after plotting points
  2. Measuring and labeling segments
  3. Identifying and measuring angles
  4. Using the rounding off option
  5. Marking a quadrilateral
  6. Verifying angle sum property
  7. Making a textbox with a conclusion
  8. Demonstrating the use of an input box like a check box

Student activities

Click here to download the Quadrilateral worksheet and here to download the triangle worksheet. After the demonstration lesson, you will learn to construct the following:

  1. Four intersecting lines with the formation of a quadrilateral - try it with all equal sides, two sides equal, etc. Did you notice any difficulty in construction?
  2. Exploring the properties of a quadrilateral and completing a worksheet

Portfolio

  1. Your completed Geogebra files will be the addition to your digital portfolio.
  2. Completed worksheet
